Bike Racks

The Town of Cobourg's Public Works Department has recently acquired ten (10) additional bike racks to install within our community. We are currently seeking public feedback on the current proposed locations for the bike racks and any additional insight or suggestions on alternative locations.

It is important to understand some of the key components that must be considered when deciding on the best location for a bike racks. These include:

• Size: Each bike rack is 84" long x 20"wide x 45" high, and must be able to accommodate the length of a bike.
• Placement: The bike racks are owned and maintained by the Town of Cobourg, and therefore must be placed on municipal property. A bike rack can be placed on any solid, level ground (ie. grass, pavement, gravel) but cannot interfere with sidewalks, paths, roadways or entrances/exits.
• Purpose: Bike racks are essentially parking for cyclists. They are best suited in a location where cyclists frequent and require short-term parking.

Proposed Locations
As suggested by the the Transportation Advisory Committee and Town Staff it is recommended that the 10 bicycle racks be installed at the following locations:

1. Rotary Harbourfront Park, Farmers' Market (2 racks)
2. Queen Street, near the Canada Post Office (1 rack)
3. Victoria Park (2 racks)
   1. One (1) near the Lawn Bowling Club
   2. One (1) at the southeast corner of King Street East and McGill Street
4. Cobourg Marina, near The Esplanade and Third Street (1 rack)
5. Peter Delanty Park on Coverdale Avenue, near the tennis courts (1 rack)
6. Sinclair Park, near the tennis courts (1 rack)
7. Marie Dressler Museum, 212 King Street West (1 rack)
8. Sifton-Cook Heritage Centre, 141 Orr Street (1 rack)

Suggest an Alternative Location
Where do you need a bike rack? Using the Map in the public engagement section below, we are encouraging the public to suggest any alternate locations where a bike rack is required.

Goal
The primary goal of this engagement project is to determine the ideal locations for 10 new bike racks.

The public engagement objective is to:

• Gather feedback from citizens and cyclists on the current proposed locations for 10 bike racks.
• Gather suggestions from citizens and cyclists on alternative locations based on experience and frequently travelled places.
